Nick Burns has put the BetaFPV Air II frame through its paces, and spoiler alert: it’s managed to survive a week of indoor chaos without succumbing to a tragic demise. The frame is lighter—shedding a few precious grams—and boasts a tad more durability than its predecessor. For those obsessed with trimming their builds down to sub-16 grams, this is the kind of incremental improvement that could make all the difference, especially if you fancy yourself a builder or racer.
Burns employed a rather scientific approach—flying indoors with the camera at a rather optimistic angle, all while attempting to inflict maximum wear and tear on the canopy. The result? A frayed canopy by the end of the week but structural struts that refused to bend over, which is always a bonus when you’re trying to avoid costly repair bills.
In terms of actual feel, the Air II presents a firmer response while flying, though if you’re not keen on that, the flight controller can be tweaked to soften the experience. As for practical upgrades, there are now recessed screw pads to save your floor from those dreaded scratches—because let’s be honest, your landlord won’t find it amusing when you explain how your whoop caused the scuff marks.
Lastly, the Air II is available in various colours (notably excluding plaid, unfortunately), with an exclusive red version at WebleedFPV that promises no customs hassle for those of us who enjoy our deliveries sans surprises. It’s priced around $4.99, or perhaps slightly less if you fancy a jaunt to AliExpress.
