The NewBeeDrone Hummingbird V4 is a 65mm whoop that promises a decent flight experience for £80—though it comes with a few quirks that might raise an eyebrow or two. Sporting a familiar frame, it employs the robust Cockroach chassis that has passed the crash test in the short term, but long-term durability is still a bit of a mystery. With 30,000KV motors that deliver commendable power yet potentially strain your batteries, savvy pilots can adjust performance using Betaflight to tweak the effective KV.
On the techy side, this drone features a custom flight controller with a built-in ExpressLRS receiver and an impressive 400mW video transmitter—far better than its predecessor’s measly 25mW. However, the camera quality leaves something to be desired; think more “muddy” than “HD,” which may have you yearning for clearer visuals. And just when you thought you could swap parts easily, the proprietary motor connectors might add a bit of a faff to your repairs.
For those pondering if it’s worth the £80 investment, it certainly offers a solid entry point into the realm of whoops, despite its design oddities. If you’re after something that flies well but are prepared for a bit of tinkering, give it a whirl. Otherwise, alternatives like the BetaFPV Air 65 might tickle your fancy with better cameras at similar price points.
