Whoop Drone Racing: The Hummingbird V3.1 and RaceSpec – A Match Made in FPV Heaven

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

If you’re keen on getting into the thrilling world of FPV racing, our latest blog post takes a good look at the NewBeeDrone Hummingbird V3.1 and its speedy sibling, the RaceSpec. While both drones are designed for different types of pilots—one for the cautious newcomer and the other for the adrenaline-fuelled racer—they share some remarkable features. The Hummingbird V3.1 is your sturdy choice with pluggable components that allow for easy repairs after a crash (which let’s be honest, will happen), while the RaceSpec prioritises agility with its lighter frame and direct soldered motors.

However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows; both models come with their share of quirks. For instance, they use different battery connectors, which could leave you scratching your head in frustration. And if you’re hoping to analyse your flight data, brace yourself—there’s no Blackbox logging to help you fine-tune your performance. Not to mention the rather lacklustre camera quality that struggles in tricky lighting.

We do give a nod to their micro USB connections for easy firmware updates and the impressive PWM performance that could ideally be pushed to 96kHz for better control. So, if you’re looking to take FPV racing seriously, particularly with the RaceSpec, just be aware of these idiosyncrasies before you dash off towards the finish line.
