Product Name: Rm3100
Brand: HolyBro
RM 3100 connected to Pixhawk 4 through I2CA. Does not show up in mission planner.
none I just plugged it in
Hi good day Paul,
The module you purchased is designed specifically to work within a CAN network as a CAN based sensor, this offers a large range of benefits over the older I2C protocol. The most significant to note here is the CAN protocols ability to handle interference and noise especially when dealing with a magnetometer, which are incredibly sensitive to interference and drift.
It would be my recommendation to use the compass as a CAN sensor instead.
Hope this helps?
How would you rate our customer service?

Compass still not working, I see other people have same issue
Paul
Hi Paul,
Thank you for your patience and for following the troubleshooting steps. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you’re experiencing with our product.
To assist you further and ensure we address the issue accurately, could you please provide us with clear images or a video that shows the condition of the item? If possible, please include shots from different angles so we can get a comprehensive view. This will help us better understand the problem and provide a suitable resolution.
Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to resolving this for you as quickly as possible.
Thank you for the images. Could you also please provide a video/images showing the connection to your autopilot, ensuring there are no bent pins? Additionally, we would appreciate relevant screenshots of your configuration in Mission Planner. This will help us verify everything is set up correctly. If needed, we can forward this information to the manufacturer’s engineering team for further assistance. It’s quite uncommon for the RM3100 to malfunction, as all units are thoroughly tested during production and only shipped if they pass these tests.
Kind Regards
Alex

Just updating the info from @clean.all to keep things organised on this thread, as received this via separate email
There are no bent pins I have 3 Pixhawks they have the same issue screen shot showing the compass is connected but requires maintenance. Tried to update many times it fails most of the time and leaving the update to run all night makes no difference, if it does complete it’s the same version 1.0 and the compass does not show but it shows it’s connected.

@clean.all I will pass this info onto Holybro engineers to get this resolved for you, I will update you as soon as we get a reply from them!
Hi
Just to update you, Holybro are still investigating this as it looks like there is an issue with the stable release firmware, as a few other customers have the same issue. So option 1 is to downgrade firmware for now, or wait for the new release, but they are confident that it not a hardware issue.
Will update you once I hear back from them about the stable release!
Kind Regards

Thank you for the update
Hi good morning Paul,
We received some feedback regarding the RM3100 from Holybro. They are confident that it is a software issue affecting the unit in this way and not a hardware concern.
Here are the details we recived from them:
I’m having trouble triggering the auto update. But if I use the normal firmware update process(online and offline), the stable version of the firmware is fine. Probably the mission planner is grabbing the wrong firmware for autoupdate.
One thing you can try is to flash it using a ST-Link. If you guys have a ST-Link V2 and installed an STM32Cube programmer, you can try flash firmware to RM3100 without the flight controller.
Use picture above for connection reference, and use firmware link below(.hex file):

I do apologise for the lengthy amount of time this has taken trying to sort out this issue for you.
If there is anything else I can assist with please let me know?
Regards,
David

I don’t have the flashing equipment. Can you flash it? Have they given you an indication of timescale when they will fix it. I think it will be better if I returned it for a refund
Paul
Hi good day Paul,
I have asked HolyBro for an indication on timeframe regarding this issue, as soon as I hear back from them I will update you.

We haven’t heard from Ardupilot devs yet. But after some testing, it seems to be happening to all fresh 1.5fw RM3100. It will brick after updating firmware in Mission Planner.
It can be fixed using ST-Link by flashing RM3100 with the stable firmware found on Ardupilot fw website:
