Order Number: UT-734287
Product Name: Fms Ranger Trainer 850mm Rtf
Brand: FMS
I ordered an FMS Ranger 850mm. It is a ‘Ready to Fly’ package but the elevators, rudder and ailerons are not working. Only the throttle responds to the controller.
In the ‘Trouble Shooting’ part of the instructions, it says that for any control surfaces that do not move, there could be wiring, linkage or service damage.
Since this is a ‘Ready to Fly’ kit where everything should come working, please may you look into/advise on how to arrange a replacement?
Assembled the kit to the letter of the instructions. When not working, tried various combinations of turning off and on again before dissembling and rebuilding. Fault persists
Thank you for the detailed description and video, this does help us with trouble shooting.
I think it might still be trying to calibrate the gyro which control the surfaces.
Reflex gyro still in its 30 s start-up routine – until the gyro finishes calibrating, the elevator, aileron and rudder channels stay locked. You’ll see the LED on the gyro flashing rapidly; once it goes solid the surfaces should respond. Leaving the model absolutely still and level for 25-30 seconds after plugging in the flight-battery normally clears this.
This is a thread from a customer who experienced a similar issue, I think this might be the problem:
Please let me know if that sorts out the issue? If not I will contact the manufacturer and ask for further assistance.
That is frustrating. I’m sorry to hear you struggling like this. I have forwarded our supplier your details and description about his issue and have asked for their assistance.
As soon as I hear back from them I will come back to you.
I do apologies for the delay here.
If there is anything else I can help with please do let me know.
Please see the attached photos of the wiring diagram in the instruction manual, the elevator, rudder, and ailerons plugged in, and the lights on the gyro.
One thing I can think of here, as the model has GPS, have you tried the model outside to pick up satellites? This is the only reason I can think of as to why it wont power up the control surfaces.
Thank you, Alex - yes, I have tried the model outside repeatedly throughout this thread but still the same issue persists.
UMT Support - I have followed all advice, posted pictures when asked, waited patiently between each post for your slow replies, and yet I still have no working model two weeks after raising this.
Thanks for letting us know the pre-paid label won’t work for your parcel size – sorry for that extra step!
Not a problem at all. Please go ahead and use your own shipping service to send the item back to us.
Regarding the return postage: if, after we check the item over here, it’s confirmed as faulty according to our return terms, we’ll refund your shipping cost. We generally cover up to £4.50, as this typically handles standard returns.
However, since your parcel is a bit larger, if you find that a basic tracked return service is going to cost more than this, please just get in touch with us with the details and expected cost before you ship it. We can then quickly check options and confirm the amount we’ll cover. For instance, a service like Evri can often be a good, cost-effective option for larger parcels, and we can look into that with you.
Either way, please do keep hold of your postage receipt.
And just make sure to include your RMA #143605 details somewhere in or on the parcel so we can process it smoothly when it arrives with us.
Let us know if there’s anything else you need, or to discuss the shipping cost.
Three days and still no reply or even acknowledgement of my message…
Please give me some direction, some sense that you care about my case.
What am I to do about a return? Presumably your ongoing slow replies mean I have an extension on the 30-day window to return?
It is now 25 days since I alerted you to my faulty Ranger that was Dead On Arrival. I have nothing to show for it but am well out of pocket. Please step up and sort it out.
Sorry about the delays with this, we have had a look and it should be possible to send this back to us via an Evri courier collection.
Their policy states that you can send parcels up to 120cm long and with a combined length and circumference of 245cm. In the case of the FMS box, 92cm x39 x19.5, this fits within that (212cm). The only restriction is that you cannot drop this off at a parcel shop.
Based on this the cost on the Evri website is £6.49, so we can offer this back to you as a refund assuming the product is confirmed faulty once we get it back.
Sorry again about the delays with this, we have only had 1 other fault with this aircraft and since it was confirmed faulty before-hand FMS arranged for us to send a replacement wing assembly to the customer without any need to return.
