Checked all servos flaps battery charge in plane and transmitter

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with the FMS Ranger 850. It’s frustrating when a new plane doesn’t fly right! You mentioned you’ve already checked the servos, flaps, and battery charge, which is a good start.

Based on the behaviour you described (dropping to the ground on takeoff), here are a few common setup things that are worth double-checking, as they often cause this kind of issue:

  • Center of Gravity (CG): This is usually the most critical factor. Have you verified the CG carefully? The recommended CG for the 850mm Ranger is 40-50mm back from the leading edge of the wing. If it’s even slightly off, especially tail-heavy, it can make the plane very difficult or impossible to fly.
  • Control Surface Direction: It’s easy to get these reversed during setup. Could you double-check that the ailerons, elevator, and rudder are all moving in the correct direction when you give input on your transmitter?
  • Control Throws: Are the control throws (how much the surfaces move) set according to the manual, or are they potentially too high? Excessive elevator throw, in particular, can cause the plane to stall immediately or over-react on takeoff.
  • Propeller: Is the prop the correct size (stock is 6x5) and installed the right way around? The numbers/lettering should usually face forward. An incorrectly installed prop won’t generate proper thrust.
  • Motor Angle: Just check that the motor seems securely mounted and hasn’t shifted. It should typically have a slight down and right thrust angle built-in.
  • Takeoff Technique: Ensure you’re taking off directly into any wind and applying throttle smoothly. Gently ease back on the elevator once you have some speed, rather than pulling back hard straight away.

Regarding the flight controller – I saw you mentioned concerns it might be a cheap replacement. From the photos, the controller without the plastic casing actually looks like the standard genuine FMS Reflex units often supplied with these planes. Even with the correct controller, the setup basics mentioned above (especially CG and control directions) are still the most likely culprits for the takeoff problem you’re experiencing. It’s definitely worth meticulously checking those fundamentals first.

Hope you manage to get it sorted! Let us know how you get on.

Hi have tried all this it still crashes and now inflatable thanks

Sorry ment unflyable thanks

Hi good day,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

I’m sorry to hear you are struggling with your Ranger.

Can you send me your order number so I can start pulling details for you? The order number you quoted, #4827, is not a valid order number for us.

In addition to this, can you describe in a little more detail what the issue is, a video would be most helpful?

It is a tricycle landing gear trainer, generally a fixed wing will glide or turn or climb in some direction, even if faulty.

As it is a fixed wing I would assume it would get some speed and start climbing and not just drop out of the sky like a fault on a drone would cause.

Did the plane roll or pitch in one direction repeatedly, or was it completely random?

The comments Alex added previously would all have been on my checklist I would have suggested. The only other comment I can add, is are the servos mapped to the correct controller outputs? As in does rudder input move the rudder surface, does aileron input on the controller move the ailerons etc.

Alex, has already covered all the other bases.

Hope this helps.
If there is anything else I can help with please do let me know?

Regards,
David

Why can’t you just exchange it

Hi good day again,

If there is a manufacturer fault with the product, it definitely will be replaced or refunded as per your request.

It is standard practice to gather information about the order and the product so we can consult the manufacturer concerned to get the best possible advice for you. We are a reseller so we do not know all of these products as well as the manufacturers do.

If, for example, we simply replace the board in the Ranger but there is no fault with the board, we would still not have reached a resolution for you even though we have replaced the board. We try to gather some basic information about the product so we can get to a resolution for you as quickly as we possibly can.

I hope this helps.

David
