Order #UT-704063-WH/OUT/45938 - Walksnail Nano Vtx V3 - Faulty image using Nano VTX

Order Number: UT-704063-WH/OUT/45938
Product Name: Walksnail Nano Vtx V3
Brand: Caddx
Since trying to set up my new Walksnail system on my quad FC running INav 7.1, I’ve always had a random OSD display (info comes and goes), and the image jitters, is out of focus when looking at objects in the distance.
I have tried many, many things (Goggle settings - frame rate, resolution, different OSD settings, power settings etc) - basically with no change.

I also tried using it on a different flight controller - but only static, and also using Betaflight (instead of INav). Even the different FC shows random OSD elements, but I don’t know about the image quality on Betaflight whilst flying as it was not installed in a quad.

I have had a multiple email communication with you, and can try nothing more.
Changed many setting in the Goggles (frame rate, resolution, different OSD settings, power settings etc) - basically with no change.

I have also tried using it on a different flight controller - but only static, and also using Betaflight (instead of INav). The Betaflight FC also shows random OSD elements, but I don’t know about the image quality on Betaflight whilst flying, as it was not installed in a quad.

Both FC show an analogue image fine, using my Fatshark goggles and camera.

Hi Peter good day,

You have obviously done quite a bit of work to try fix this issue, can I ask what you believe the issue is or are you unsure?

I know there have been issues with OSD and digital systems, each requiring a bit of special attention and there have also been some specific nuances for specific FW version.

Which version of betaflight/configurator did you use?

Also could you send me a short video of the goggles display, so I can see exactly what is going on?

Walksnail is on holiday at the moment for the Chinese spring festival, so I will have to try and troubleshoot this with you. Once I get the video and particulars I will also speak to our drone technician to get his input .

I hope this helps.

If there is anything else I can assist with please do let me know?

Regards,
David

David,
I’ve had a long email conversation with Alex, in which I’ve provided all the info etc. Is there a simple way of me sending you a copy of the email exchange?

Here is a large part of the last email I sent…

"Alex,

I’ve tried it with both a Holybro F722, and a SpeedyBee F405, and also with Inav and with also Betaflight (on the SpeedyBee). Both exhibit problems. (Note that I’ve had NO problems using these FCs with my analogue Fatsharks etc. I want to move to HD, hence getting the Walksnail system).

As mentioned, the image also jitters and blurs with objects in the close background, which has Walksnail users on forums saying that the quality is not acceptable in their opinion, and that they can’t see anything that I’ve done wrong etc.

Here are a couple of YouTube recordings I made.

This one is a flight at 720p resolution. Note that the image quality was better in the goggles (except for the jittering of the objects), and the goggles NEVER showed any of the image breakup on the recording. I accept that the breakup could be the SD card (which is new). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ1sTHKjnVY

This one is a short YouTube recording of how, even static, the OSD info appears randomly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MTlWhj8qkM

This one has not been processed to include the OSD, so is exactly what was recorded onto the SD card. https://studio.youtube.com/video/YQaqyRL_14I/edit

BTW, I’m aware of Chinese New Year and that they won’t be available during that time."

The Walksnail system was bought by my son, Pete, as an Xmas/75th Birthday present.

I think I’ve done enough trials etc, especially as it’s darned difficult to get out and try to fly at the moment.

Cheers,

Norman Adlam

Having moved all the hardware across to the new frame (during which time I discovered the BN-880 GPS was erratically killing the I2C bus - all back to normal when I replaced it), I went out for a test flight today.

Image in the goggles is now excellent!

OSD started brilliant, and lasted a while, and then began to breakup again.
Overall, a much more promising session. Getting the OSD to be reliable will complete the system - and that might, I suppose, be up to Caddx. Will pursue it.

Problems are now all sorted!!

OSD now fine - after I soldered my longer cable to the VTX (after removing the insulation gunk etc).

Last flight was brilliant - now just got to wait for the better weather to enjoy using it!

Hi good day,

Thanks for letting us know, I’m glad that is sorted out now.

Happy Flying when the weather clears up!

David
