Mobula 8 O4 FOV Extender Kit: Install, Test and Real-World Footage

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

The Mobula 8 O4 FOV Extender Kit: a gadget designed to widen your world… or at least your field of view. It mounts snugly behind the ND filter of the Mobula 804 camera and is touted as an upgrade for those who fancy a more cinematic perspective. But, as always, there are a few bumps on this flight path. For instance, while it’s all well and good to aim for grandeur, the durability can take a nosedive—especially in chillier climes.

Installation is about as straightforward as it gets; remove the ND filter, pop the extender in, and voilà! Just don’t expect it to survive a crash unscathed—evidently, even tropical Singapore has its share of frame tragedies. If you’re a pilot who fancies a bit of finesse in your flying, this extender is your companion. However, if you’re more of a ‘crash and bash’ type, you might want to reconsider.

In terms of performance, the extender does indeed offer a wider angle, enhancing those fly-throughs and freestyle antics. Just keep in mind that the advantage comes with some caveats: occasional image artefacts after a crash and the ever-present risk of your camera popping out like an uninvited guest at a party.

If you’re wondering whether this kit is suitable for beginners, it’s worth the investment if cinematic flair is your thing, but do brace yourself for a learning curve involving camera retention issues. All in all, it’s a visual upgrade, not a structural one—so perhaps keep a spare canopy handy for those inevitable mishaps.
