HGLRC NBlade MAX 5-inch: Premium build, cheap without camera — almost-perfect

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

The HGLRC NBlade MAX 5-inch flies in with the grace of a show car but, rather unfortunately, stumbles when the throttle hits zero. It boasts an impressively polished build that suggests it should be far more expensive, with a quality chassis that wouldn’t look out of place on a high-end model. However, before you get your hopes up, there’s a significant tuning quirk that makes it a bit unpredictable at low throttle—think of it as a toddler learning to walk.

On the hardware front, you’re looking at some serious specs: hefty motors, an H7 dual-stack flight controller, and even addressable RGB lighting for the disco vibes. But, alas, the camera-less variant is a bit like a sandwich missing the filling; you’ll need to source your own fasteners and antennas, which feels a tad cheeky given the price point of about £199. Just don’t expect a fully assembled feast right out of the box.

Flight experience has its ups and downs—initial hover and mid-throttle behaviour are impressive, showcasing smooth acceleration. That said, drop the throttle to zero and it’s a bit like watching a balloon slowly deflate. The culprits appear to be in the firmware rather than a mechanical fault, so fingers crossed for an update to remedy this little predicament.

In summary, the NBlade MAX holds promise with its excellent build and specs, yet it’s currently marred by a firmware issue that leaves it a touch wobbly. If they manage to sort out the tuning, it could easily sit at the top of the pile alongside the best. Until then, approach with caution—or a sturdy set of tools.
