Caddx Avatar HD Repeater: A Game Changer for FPV Enthusiasts?

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

The Caddx Avatar HD Repeater Module has landed, and it’s here to rescue those of us who find ourselves frequently battling dodgy signals while soaring through the skies. Designed to bolster your FPV (First Person View) experience, this nifty little relay connects your video transmitter to your goggles, allowing for a more reliable transmission—ideal for when you’re trying to navigate those pesky obstructions.

Inside the box, you’ll find everything you need: the module itself, a couple of sets of antennas (because no one likes to be short-changed), power and USB cables, and a setup card from Caddx. It’s as straightforward as connecting power, binding your gear, and ensuring you’re not flying blind, quite literally. Just one word of caution: it might add a slight latency of about 13 milliseconds when in use, which, depending on your flying style, could either be a minor hiccup or a complete deal-breaker.

This repeater shines for those looking to extend their range beyond the typical limits—perfect for pilots venturing into longer distances, navigating tricky structures, or those with mobility challenges who prefer to stay put while piloting their drones. However, do keep in mind its limitations; it doesn’t support HDMI output or DVR functionality, and you’ll need to procure your own compatible antennas for those fancy goggles of yours.

For a more in-depth look at this gadget, Ian from MadsRC has done an excellent review that’s worth a gander. You’ll get to see it in action and pick up some handy tips along the way.
