Order #711766 - Jumper Bumblebee - I need help with

Order Number: 711766
Product Name: Jumper Bumblebee
Brand: Jumper
So, I got the Jumper Bumblebee from you guys, and I’m trying to do some testing with it but the manual is a bit lacking. IDK if they just used a generic EdgeTx manual, or if they’ve accidentally used the manual from 1 of their other radios. So specifically they mention things like the Sys button and the SD card, neither of which this radio has. I’ve looked at the website, but they don’t have the manual for this radio. Just wonder if anyone there knows if the Bumblebee does used an SD card, and I’m just not seeing it?

Thanks.

I have just sent a request over to Jumper to see if they can update us on this, but unfortunately manuals and after sales support are not one of JumperRC’s strong points.

However this radio runs EdgeTX and function wise is mostly the same as any other EdgeTX radio with the buttons just in different places. So checking out the edgeTX and ELRS wikis should get you the info you need, but if there is anything specific just ask and one of us could try and help answer you

Hi Alex, yup I think a lot of companies like Jumper don’t have the best support. I did think about looking at the EdgeTx and ELRS GitHub pages to see if I could find anything pertinent. Thing is I’m quite new to this, so I’m not even too sure what to look for. I tried putting the Jumper radio next to my Radiomaster TX16 to try and see which menus have the items I’m looking for. My main aim ATM is to find where bind is on the Bumblebee, but I’m not seeing it, so I assume I need to do something before bind is available. I’ve used an ELRS module up to now, which has a WiFi, so you can use the ELRS configurator, but the Bumblebee doesn’t seem to have WiFi, so I’m struggling to give it a bind phrase.

Hi good day,

I created a quick doc for you to try troubleshoot some of the immediate thoughts that come to mind. As Alex mentioned, Jumpers after-sales is not great but I will try and contact them and see what response I get.

Just to reiterate what Alex has already mentioned, EdgeTx as the operating system works the same across what ever hardware (radio) you are using, if wifi isn’t available it will need to be flashed to both FW’s with the same bind phrase.

As soon as I get a response from Jumper I will come back to you.

1. Understanding the Binding Process

  • ELRS Binding Basics: ELRS uses a “Bind Phrase” or a manual binding process if the bind phrase isn’t set. The Bumblebee might require you to set up the bind process differently compared to your external module with WiFi.
  • Binding on Bumblebee: If the Bumblebee doesn’t have WiFi, you’ll need to configure the bind phrase directly through the transmitter or by flashing a new firmware to both the receiver and transmitter with a shared bind phrase.

2. Finding the Bind Option

  • Menu Exploration: You already tried comparing menus between the Jumper and Radiomaster, which is a good step. On EdgeTx/OpenTx, the “Bind” option is typically located within the Model Setup page.
    • Steps to Check:
      1. Go to the model you’ve set up for the Bumblebee.
      2. Scroll down to the Internal RF or External RF section (depending on which module you’re using).
      3. Ensure the protocol is set to CRSF (Crossfire) if using ELRS.
      4. Look for a “Bind” option or button once the correct protocol is selected.
  • If “Bind” isn’t showing, it’s often because the transmitter module or the receiver isn’t properly configured or connected.

3. Configuration Challenges

  • Receiver Firmware: Check that the Bumblebee’s receiver firmware is compatible with your ELRS transmitter module. Sometimes, mismatched firmware can prevent binding.
  • Bind Phrase: If the Bumblebee doesn’t support WiFi, you might need to flash it with a bind phrase manually. This can be done by:
    1. Using the ELRS Configurator on your computer.
    2. Selecting the correct firmware for the receiver.
    3. Inputting the bind phrase during the configuration process.
  • Check the Documentation: Look for the exact model of the Bumblebee’s receiver and cross-reference it on the EdgeTx or ELRS GitHub pages. Documentation often explains unique quirks or steps.

4. Additional Tools

  • CLI Access: If you can connect the Bumblebee to Betaflight or another configurator, you might be able to manually bind or configure settings via the command-line interface.
  • LED Indicators: Most receivers will use LED patterns to indicate binding mode or errors. Refer to the Bumblebee’s manual to interpret these signals.

5. Resources to Explore

6. Steps Forward

  • Confirm which protocol and firmware your Bumblebee is using.
  • Revisit the EdgeTx/OpenTx menus to ensure the right setup for CRSF and binding.
  • Consider flashing firmware to align both the Bumblebee and your transmitter module.
  • Consult GitHub or the community if the issue persists—post logs or details for more specific advice.

Also here is the latest manual we just received from Jumper for the Bumblebee, hope that helps and resolves any of the issues:

Jumper Bumblebee Manual.pdf (2.7 MB)

That appears to be the same as the manual that comes with the radio. All the screen shots are from a radio which is using 4-in-1 multi, whereas the Bumblebee is ELRS. As I say, no biggy as I have what I need now.

Hi good day,

I’m really sorry about that. I have contacted the manufacturer and asked specifically if there are any other manuals available for the Bumblebee.

As soon as I hear back I will let you know.

Hope this helps.
If there is anything else I can help with please do let me know?

David

Hi Andre good day

I spoke with Jumpers tech support and the manual which Alex sent previously is the manual for that radio. They also commented saying the generic EdgeTx manual would also work.

Hope this helps.

If you have any other questions please do let me know?

Hi, thanks for that. I mean it obviously isn’t the manual for the Bumblebee because it talks about a 4-in1 module and the radio is ELRS, and there isn’t a 4-in-1 version, well not yet anyway. But it’s OK honestly, it’s par for the course as it’s kind of niche and DIY, I’ve found out most of what I need, and yes I can look at any generic EdgeTX manual. Thanks for the help anyway, you guys have been great.

Thanks

Kind Regards

Andy Mackay.
