FlySky’s PA01 ProArt: Funky Tron Radio or Practical EdgeTX Contender? — A Painless360 Report

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

In the latest blog post, Painless360 takes a good hard look at FlySky’s PA01 ProArt radio. It’s a compact contraption that tries to straddle the gap between the old-school AFHDS3 protocol and the trendy open-source realms of EdgeTX and ExpressLRS. While it dazzles with its Tron-esque design—complete with colourful LEDs—it stumbles over a few usability hurdles, proving that even the flashiest gadgets can have a couple of loose screws.

The PA01 ships with AFHDS3 as the default but offers the option to flash to ExpressLRS. Just bear in mind, once you pick your poison, there’s no toggling back without a firmware flash. The 2.4" colour screen isn’t touch-sensitive—so if you’re hoping for a bit of a swipe-and-tap experience, I’m afraid you’ll need to adjust your expectations.

On the ergonomic front, Painless360 praises its thumber-friendly design. The removable sticks and foldable antenna are nice touches, though it seems the controls could do with a bit more charm—spotting a stiff rotary encoder is one thing, but losing your stick tips? Now that’s a proper bother.

In short, if you fancy something that doesn’t look like every other transmitter on the field and you’re keen on a compact EdgeTX-compatible radio, the PA01 is worth a gander. Just keep an eye out for those tiny stick tips—they have a knack for disappearing into the abyss.
