FlySky PR01 ELRS receiver arrives — small, cheap, promising

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

FlySky has unveiled its rather diminutive PR01 ELRS receiver, a promising addition for UAV builders who fancy a bit of choice without adding much weight—at just 1.2 grams, it’s practically a feather. With dual flat antennas, it boasts a 100mW output and supports both CRSF and SBUS protocols. Naturally, there are a few early quirks with updates and configurations, because why would anything ever work perfectly the first time?

This little gadget signals FlySky’s serious entry into the ELRS arena, making it easier for those of us tinkering with UAVs to swap out components and hopeful to test various rigs without breaking the bank. The flat antennas may stir some debate—while they keep things sleek, not everyone is a fan. But, different strokes for different folks, right?

You’ll find the PR01 already listed on the ExpressLRS configurator, with hints at more models in the pipeline that might even sport traditional wire antennas for those who prefer a classic look. Just keep your expectations in check: while it’s a promising piece of kit, some users have reported update woes that could leave you yearning for a good old-fashioned USB connection instead.

So, if you’re in the market for compact solutions, the PR01 deserves a spot on your shortlist. Just don’t forget to double-check its compatibility and test range before you send it soaring—after all, trust but verify is the mantra of every successful flight.
