I’m looking to build a DIY quadcopter with a group of students (older students) that can fly autonomously but it doesn’t need to carry a camera or any payload. What kit would you recommend?
Thanks!
I would therefore recommend the following:
- The S500 frame S500 Quadcopter Frame - Unmanned Tech UK FPV Shop
- 4 x 2217Q motors https://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/brushless-motor-2217q-880kv/
- 4 x SimonK 20A ESC with BEC https://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/20a-multi-rotor-esc-simonk/
- 4 x 10 inch propellers 10 x 45 Plastic Propeller Set (CW+CCW) - Unmanned Tech UK FPV Shop - I’ve provided a link to plastic props but you may well decide to choose carbon fibre/carbon fibre reinforced props for added strength.
- Gens Ace 3300mah battery https://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/gens-ace-3300mah-14-8v-25c-4s1p-lipo-battery-pack/ - You may wish to buy two batteries as it is always a good idea to have a spare for prolonged flights etc.
- And of course the Pixhawk https://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/pixhawk-32bit-autopilot/ - this link is to the genuine 3DR Pixhawk but you may wish to consider purchasing one of our own manufactured PX4 platform such as the Pixhack https://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/pixhack-autopilot-kit/ or Unmanned Hawk https://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/unmanned-hawk-autopilot-kit/. These are based on exactly the same firmware as the 3DR Pixhawk and we offer a full warranty on these products.
If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
