My VTX appears to be faulty.
After several failed attempts to get it to change from E2 to R8 (100mW) in Betaflight, it finally changed to R8. However, the image is washed out looking, and when I move my head to the side the image becomes snowy, and if I move even a short distance away, it becomes entirely static, not showing either the OSD or any image.
I am using Skyzone 04O Pro goggles, which are tuned to the same R8 band/frequency. I was monitoring the temperature of the AIO through the goggles, and had a fan pointed directly at it no more than 10cm away.
– Changed from R8 back to E2, and ensured my goggles were on the same Band/Frequency. This made no difference.
– Checked the camera and camera wiring for damage. There was none that I could identify.
– Checked that the antenna was securely fastened. It was.
– Replaced it with another (new) 5cm whip antenna to check if it was a U.FL connection or torn antenna issue. This exchange made no difference.
– Took the canopy off and removed the sticker to conduct a visual check of the AIO, which showed no damage to it that I could identify.
Hi Tiarnan good day,
I’m sorry to hear you are struggling with your drone.
Seems you have also done a fair amount of troubleshooting on this mob already.
Can I just confirm, the goggles do not do this with a different drone on E2 and R8?

David

Hi David,
Thanks for your response.
This is happening across both E2 and R8. I also did an autoscan in the goggles to see if maybe it didn’t acknowledge the band/channel change, and maybe there might be a frequency that held out better – they’re all showing the same symptoms.
When the drone is on the ground for too long with out any airflow, it could be that the VTX is overheating and then reducing power to try stop the VTX becoming damaged?
Also I would also suggest you double check that you are not stuck in pit mode?
Thanks Alex,
I typically use a fan when working on the bench. You can see this in the background of the video provided. With the VTX breakup I haven’t the opportunity to fly it, it’s been on the bench since I got it.
Definitely not in Pit Mode, have it turned off in Betaflight, with no mode/aux switch made available for it.
