The radio does not turn on with batteries inserted. The batteries 18650 Lion cells. The battery compartment has spring battery, and I made very sure that the orientation was correct.
I also used some wire on the springs before inserting the cells, and then using a voltmeter. The voltage showed just over 8 volts.
This showed that the power was connected to the radio. I assume that this means that the fault is internal to the radio.
