Convert analogue to digital

I’ve recently got avata 2 with goggles 3 . Excellent visibility but fairly boring to fly even in manual mode. I’ve got some old analogue drones running on fysky but would like to convert to a DJI 04 system. ( Iflight nazgul and a iflight turbobee) . I’m not very technical minded. Is this something relatively easy to do ?
I understand nazgul might be better as bigger. But turbobee is only a 3" drone

Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

It’s awesome you’re looking to upgrade your FPV drones to the DJI O4 system! While it’s definitely achievable, it’s not exactly a “plug-and-play” situation, especially for someone who’s not very technical. Let’s break down the challenges and considerations:

Why it’s not so easy:

  • Soldering: You’ll need to solder tiny wires from the DJI O4 Air Unit to your flight controller. This requires a steady hand and basic soldering skills. If you’re not comfortable with this, it might be best to seek help from a more experienced friend or a local hobby shop.
  • Compatibility: You’ll need to make sure your flight controller is compatible with the DJI O4 system. Older flight controllers might not have the necessary connections or firmware support.
  • Space constraints: Especially on the Turbobee (being a 3" drone), fitting the DJI O4 Air Unit can be tricky. You might need to get creative with mounting and cable management.
  • Tuning: After installing the new system, you’ll likely need to re-tune your drone’s flight controller settings for optimal performance.

Nazgul vs. Turbobee:

You’re right, the Nazgul, being larger, will generally be easier to work with due to more space. However, the Turbobee can also be converted with some careful planning and potentially a smaller version of the DJI O4 Air Unit (if available).

Recommendations:

  1. Start with the Nazgul: Since it offers more space, it’ll be a more forgiving platform for your first conversion.
  2. Watch tutorials: YouTube is your friend! Search for “convert analog drone to DJI O4” and you’ll find step-by-step guides. This will give you a visual understanding of the process.
  3. Consider a pre-built DJI O4 drone: If you’re not confident with the technical aspects, buying a ready-to-fly DJI O4 drone might be a less stressful option. There are many great options available, like the iFlight Nazgul5 V2 O4 or the BetaFPV Meteor75 Pro O4.
  4. Ask for help: Don’t hesitate to reach out to the FPV community online or at a local hobby shop. People are generally happy to help newcomers.

Ultimately, converting your analog drones to DJI O4 can be a rewarding experience. It will significantly enhance your flying experience with improved video quality and range. Just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve and some hands-on work. Good luck!
