Axis Flying DJI O4 Airunit CNC Upgrade Kit: Cool It or Cook It?

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

Axis Flying has decided to put the “cool” back into the DJI O4 lite air unit with their new CNC upgrade kit, designed to tackle that overheating issue we’ve all grown rather fond of—if by “fond” you mean “irritated”. This nifty kit includes a CNC-machined aluminium heat sink and protective camera housings, providing both cooling and a bit of much-needed physical protection. Let’s face it, the barebones unit was about as safe as an open flame at a fireworks display.

Now, for those who fancy running the lite air unit in anything larger than a tiny whoop, this upgrade is practically essential. The heat sink ensures your unit won’t spontaneously combust after a few minutes of operation, while the camera housing (available in two sizes) allows for seamless integration into standard FPV frames. It’s like putting a proper casing on a delicate biscuit—much more civilised, wouldn’t you say?

Thermal tests reveal that while the bare unit tends to heat up faster than a kettle on a cold morning, the heat sink keeps things at a manageable temperature, even during extended recording sessions. Just remember, physics still reigns supreme; you’ll need a bit of airflow to keep everything ticking along nicely.

In terms of affordability, the kit won’t have you breaking the bank. Prices range from approximately £4.50 to £16, depending on what you fancy. For those wanting to run the DJI O4 lite air unit without turning their drone into a hot potato, this upgrade kit is well worth a gander.
