Radiomaster AX12 review: Android control, HDMI FPV, ELRS, Mavlink

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

The Radiomaster AX12 is a clever contraption that marries an Android 9 touchscreen with the usual ELRS radio fare, adding some rather fancy HDMI FPV inputs and Mavlink passthrough. Think of it as your Swiss Army knife for flying—if Swiss Army knives were prone to the occasional trial and error.

In the realm of usefulness, this gadget is best suited for those who fancy a big screen for telemetry and GPS maps, though if you’re after the full EdgeTX experience—or logical switches and that sort of jazz—you might want to keep looking. With a max power of 250 mW and a hefty 10,000 mAh battery promising about six hours of operation, it’s not exactly lightweight, but then again, neither is your Aunt Mabel after her Sunday roast.

There’s a touch of humour on the HDMI front; you can display live FPV footage, but expect some jitter—because who doesn’t love a bit of drama while flying? As for Mavlink passthrough, let’s just say it’s more of a “coming soon” feature than anything else at the moment.

So, if your setup resembles a mix of goggles, a laptop, and a tablet, the Radiomaster AX12 might just be the consolidation you didn’t know you needed. However, if you find yourself clinging to EdgeTX habits, prepare for a bit of friction; like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, only less satisfying.
