Order Number: 731338
Product Name: Speedybee 60amp Esc
Brand: SpeedyBee
I recently purchased a Speedybee F405 stack including 60A ESC.
During configuration I was unable to set the motor protocol correctly. All the FC functions as expected. After checking Speedybee support page and using ESC-configuration I was unable to communicate fully with the ESC with two ESCs showing unknown.
I followed the Speedybee support page to address this problem by flashing the unknown ESCs with the “ignore MCU layout” flag set. However this had no effect.
Further testing with the BHeli tool showed ‘—-‘ for the ESC when trying to read settings. Again, following the speedbee support pages, this appears to be a firmware issue and can only be reflashed using external hardware.
Given the delicate soldering requirements and tiny components on the rear of the ESC I’m unwilling to attempt reflashing.
Please see problem description. Reflashing of the ESC has been attempted. Flight controller also updated to latest version of BetaFlight (this was done initially to address the MOTOR PROTOCOL error).
I’ve removed the ESC from the drone as I was wanted to look at the rear of the board to see how difficult it would be to attempt reflashing using an Arduino Nano as-per the Speedybee support website. This also means I don’t have any video/screenshots of the issue.
Hi Andrew good day,
I’m really sorry to hear you are struggling with your ESC like this.
It is quite difficult to diagnose the fault now, given that it has been desoldered. I have already reached out to SpeedyBee and asked for their assistance. As soon as I hear back from them I will come back to you.
If there is anything else I can assist with in the meantime please do let me know.
Regards,
David

Hi Andrew good day,
We had a lengthy response back from SpeedyBee, they requested a few more details from you to move forward and process this for you.
Please can you provide the following (original questions from manufacturer for your reference):
1. May we kindly ask if the ESC damaged when you used it for the first time?
2. Could you please refer to the following tutorial to restore ESC to normal?
How to flash firmware for 8-bit ESC?
3. Could you please provide the front and back pictures of the ESC and the screenshot of the order (the screenshot of the order must include: the time of purchase and the order number)?
Don’t worry about order numbers and dates, I will sort this out for you.
Please can you send through the rest and I will send them on to SpeedyBee, to get this sorted out.
Regards,
David

Hi David,
Many thanks for the update.
I’ve spent some more time on the drone/ESC over the past day or so. I’m pleased to say I appear to have it working again.
The issue I believe was down to a faulty flight battery. The battery was reporting a good voltage but seems that even under the lightest of loads, it wasn’t able to support the ESC.
I have the drone rebuilt and the ESc was able to be reflated with bhelis firmware, motors responded correctly etc.
I think we can close the case, but I’ll come back to you if I have problems again.
Many thanks for your support and feedback.
Kind regards
Andrew
