FpV drone verdict: BetaFPV Air65 II is $99 spent with rare competence

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

The BetaFPV Air65 II is taking the small-whoop market by storm, proving that spending £99 can indeed lead to surprisingly competent enjoyment. This little marvel comes sorted and ready to fly—no one wants to waste a sunny afternoon grappling with Betaflight settings, after all. The Freestyle version touts features like a 5-in-1 flight controller and onboard ExpressLRS, all while sporting a rather respectable out-of-box tune.

That said, it’s not without its flaws. The camera has a mild yellow tint (because who needs accurate colours, right?), and the angle mode could certainly do with a bit of tuning. Shipping with alpha firmware? A charming quirk if you’re a fan of living on the edge. Thankfully, the crash resilience is commendable, so it should bounce back from the occasional mishap without too much fuss—or expense; replacement frames are only £4.99.

In summary, the Air65 II is a commendably fun FPV drone that performs well in Acro mode and offers decent battery life. It may not be perfect, but for the price, it’s hard to find better excuses to spend £99 unless your hobby is collecting disappointments in bulk.
