The Emax Tinyhawk Aero might just be the finest 65mm whoop that thinks it’s a racing drone, but it does come with a bit of baggage. Weighing in at a dainty 16.31g (minus a battery, obviously), it’s equipped with a 400mW VTX and some impressive motors, yet it also demands you buy into its exclusive battery connector party. If you’re not one for soldering or adapting, best keep your distance.
What sets the Aero apart is its handling. During tests, it performed admirably against much pricier competitors, remaining composed even when battling a brisk 14mph wind. However, don’t forget that those 400mW flights can feel like watching paint dry—short and unsatisfying, especially if you’re expecting to fly past your neighbour’s garden gnomes for an extended period.
For those keen on indoor agility or a spot of light racing at 25mW, it’s hard to fault the Aero. Just be prepared for a slight compromise on battery compatibility unless you’re keen on some DIY modifications. And as for the frame? It’s durable enough for a few skirmishes with furniture but might need a bit of TLC after aggressive flying.
In summary, if performance trumps ecosystem purity for you, the Tinyhawk Aero wouldn’t be a dreadful choice. Just remember, it’s not quite the straightforward option, especially if you enjoy tinkering with your gear.
