Caddx has rolled out the Ascent Lite Plus and VRX Pro, adding a smidge more power and a few shiny trinkets to their low-cost digital FPV system. For a mere $39.99—just the price of a decent pint—you get 500mW output, audio support, and gimbal compatibility. However, before you rush off to buy one, be aware that the much-touted 120fps mode might leave you feeling like you’ve been sold a pup, as most goggles won’t even accept that input.
In terms of performance, while the RF behaviour is decent enough for everyday flying, random image stutters have made themselves quite at home across various builds—even after a firmware update that promised to fix everything but your broken dreams. So, if you’re after a reliable system, you might want to keep your expectations firmly tethered to reality.
Now, onto the VRX Pro. It retains the handy functions of its predecessor but throws in some extra features like audio recording and updated antennas. Yet, the mounting setup is a delightful puzzle, proving that sometimes “compatible” means “you’ll need a good bit of DIY know-how.” It’s all very sensible, provided you don’t mind wrestling with the odd cable or two.
Overall, the Ascent Lite Plus positions itself as a solid choice for budget-conscious pilots, though it lacks some essential features that many would consider non-negotiable. Just remember: it may be an upgrade, but it’s still not quite the finished article we’d hope for.
