Betaflight 2026.6 is coming, and it is not a small tidy-up

This is a companion topic for our recent blog post on blog.unmanned.tech

Betaflight 2026.6 is now in the release candidate stage—so close you could practically shake hands with it, though I’d advise against it. This isn’t just a gentle polishing of the old firmware; we’re talking feature-packed changes that might actually be worth your time. For those using an IIM-42652 gyro, heed this: if you update, old PID tunes may leave you with a rather less than charming flyaway situation. Best to reset to defaults and get retuning unless you fancy a game of “where did my drone go?”

The Configurator has had a much-needed makeover, now resembling something from this century rather than a dusty relic. It’s cleaner, more organised, and even supports battery profiles—because switching between LiPo and Li-Ion shouldn’t feel like a high-stakes gamble. Among other shiny new features, there’s auto PID tuning, built-in Blackbox Log Viewer, and mobile app enhancements that mean Android users can now flash their controllers directly, a miracle worthy of unfurling the bunting.

Though the waypoint support is more of a toddler taking its first steps than a fully-fledged autonomous flight system, it does signal a shift in Betaflight’s focus. Mind you, if you’re after solid autonomous missions today, best stick with iNav or RGPilot for the time being.

For those adventurous enough to dabble with the release candidate, this update appears promising, but do bear in mind that it’s still test software. If you like your drone flying reliable and drama-free, waiting for the stable version might be the wisest course of action.
