Severely underpowered

Order Number: UT-696441
Product Name: Sequre Sw2 Mini Spot Welder
Brand: Sequre
The machine does not make welds strong enough to stick to batteries. In all documentation, it is stated that this welder can do up to .15 nickel strip. I tried to get it to weld .15 nickel strip and could not under any circumstances, even on the max power setting. I tried on both clean and sanded surfaces, as well as with strip supplied with the welder and some I had already from a reputable manufacture.
Used max setting, charged, power cycled, different surfaces, different strips, many welds on a single battery. Nothing I did made a weld that would not peel off with slight force

Sorry to hear about this.

Could you please let me know how you are powering your spot welder as sometimes this can impact if the unit gets enough power to complete a proper spot weld?

How would you rate our customer service?

Kind Regards

Alex

The welder has a battery built in for power.

Sorry about that, you are correct, I was getting mixed up with another one we sell.

For this strips you are using, are you using nickel plated strips, or pure nickel? Reason being I spoke with the manufacture and they said that the welder has issues with solid nickel at that thickness, but nickel plated can go up to 0.2mm

So I also tried using it with the supplied strip and it would also not weld that, I assume if its made for plated strip then that’s what they would supply it with, regardless it could not weld the supplied strip, i ended up having to solder the batteries i wanted to weld. What are my next steps? Can I return the welder?

Hi

The manufacturer has asked if you are able to provide a video showing how you are welding the supplied nickel plated strip just to they can confirm everything is being done correctly, as if so then we should be able to get them to issue a replacement if the item is confirmed faulty. As it definitely should be able to weld the strip included.

Kind Regards

Hi there, sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you. I’ve been away on holiday. I have attached a video of me performing a double spot weld to the top of a 18650 cell, as can be seen in the video. I cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol before welding and held the weld contacts down strongly. I have also attached a photo of the nickel strip afterwards to show that the weld barely made it through it and came off with ease. Proper welds will usually tear into the strip before they separate from the cell. If there’s anything else I can do to help show off this problem, then I will happily do so. Hi again,

Thank you for the info and video, and apologies for the hassle!

We’ve passed this on to the manufacturer per their request and we’ve just received additional instructions from the manufacturer.

Here’s what they’ve recommended:

[Step 1]: Please fully charge the product first
[Step 2]: Use nickel-plated steel strip material, thickness 0.1-0.15mm.
[Step 3]: When spot welding, put it on gently, do not press hard.

We’re here to help and will work with the manufacturer to ensure everything is resolved to your satisfaction. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. We appreciate your continued trust in us and look forward to assisting you further.

Best regards,

Cameron

Yes, I was able to try those things you suggested, and they did not really improve things much. To be completely honest I am a bit disappointed in the products ability to only weld very thin and only plated material, not great for anything that requires high currents like FPV drones, its definitely not able to provide secure welds on 0.2mm thick pated strip.
